944 up to 1986
1986 and earlier 944's may have had the Late Version water pump installed. The easiest way to tell is to look at your pump and see if there is a steel deflector bar bolted to the housing.
If yes, you need the Late Version pump.
If no, you need the Early Version
Additionally, you can look at the smooth timing belt idler roller. If it is 47mm (1 7/8 in) in diameter, you need the Late Version pump. If it is 33mm (1 1/8 in) in diameter, you need the Early Version pump.
IMPORTANT CORE INFORMATION
Your core refund depends on whether we can properly rebuild your pump for shipment to another customer.
If you do not want to pay the core deposit, please call our office and arrange to send your pump in advance for inspection.
We cannot issue core credit if the cast iron pump impeller has come in contact with the aluminum water pump housing, causing a groove or edge. This can affect coolant flow and result in ineffecient cooling. We cannot accept cores with cracked, corroded or damaged castings, broken studs, stripped fastener holes, and bearing bore condition.
Only Zims Autotechnik can make the determination regarding core acceptance.
